Gentoo Glass FAQs

The jug body is made of hand-blown borosilicate glass. It is reusable, safe, environmentally friendly and toxin-free for your clean tasting water.

We recommend you refill the Gentoo daily to ensure the water alkalinity is high and calcium residue doesn’t build up making it difficult to clean.

Water loses it alkalinity in general over 18-24 hours, but this depends on the methods used to alkaline the water, the amount of pollutant particles surrounding the alkaline water and what temperature the water is kept in.  Air carries PM2.5 and PM10 particles in it, so as soon as you unseal an alkaline water bottle, air gets inside the bottle and begins reducing the alkalinity of the water.

1. Fine top mesh - Pre-filtration

5. Calcium ionised clay & Ion exchange - Releases activated calcium ions and mild alkaline (pH 8.0 – 8.5) suitable for consumption and body absorption. Activated Alumina removes fluoride.

Generally you can tell whether the water is being filtered well by how fast it passes through the filters.  Gentoo filters are filtering the water highly well.  They consist of Steel Mesh, Highly Activated Carbon, KDF, Calcium Ionized Clay, Energized Ceramic, and Steel Mesh.

Yes, the Gentoo filters could removes up to 98% of fluoride.

The media we use is activated alumina. The process works by ion exchange, as the water flows through the filter it comes into contact with the media (activated alumina), the fluoride is attracted to the activated alumina and is absorbed.

Activated Alumina is generally specific to fluoride and is probably the most commonly used fluoride removal technology today.

This process is known to remove up to 98% of the fluoride in water.

Yes, you can. However, it will alter the effectiveness and the life span of the filter as the filters are specifically manufactured for treated tap water.

This is usually a sign of a blocked filter, remove filter from the jug and rinse under running tap water for a few minutes.

As the water is exposed to the air it will eventually go stale, we recommend recycling the water every day to maintain freshness and prevent bacteria growth. Recommended period is within 48 hrs.

BPA is short for bis-phenol A, a synthetic chemical widely used to harden plastic containers and bottles storing food and drink; in the linings of cans, in dental sealants and medical equipment, and has even been traced in cash register and ATM receipts.

BPA is an endocrine disruptor and has been linked to heart disease, diabetes and cancer. It can enter our bloodstream through our skin and because we can come into contact with so many sources of BPA it is difficult to avoid. Just about everyone has a detectable level of BPA in their bodies.
Whether or not it causes us real harm is a strongly debated topic. Some scientists dismiss consumer concerns as an overreaction to inconclusive studies, whilst others say the evidence is mounting that even in low doses, BPA’s effects on the human body are cause for serious concerns.

• Opt for glass, ceramic or stainless steel food containers, particularly for hot food and liquids
• Don’t wash polycarbonate plastic containers in the dishwasher with harsh detergents.
• Avoid using plastic containers that are chipped or cracked.
• Reduce your use of canned and processed foods.
• Avoid plastic containers with #7 on the bottom – they usually contain BPA.
• Look for products labelled “BPA-free”.
• Wash your hands after handling receipt or paper money.

Yes, they are BPA (Bisphenol A) free.

It is important that you follow the instructions and prepare the filter properly before use. The filter should be kept moist at all times therefore we recommend that the jug is kept full of water.

It is not necessary to refrigerate the water.

It normally takes 4 – 6 minutes for the water to be filtered, if it is extremely slow it could be that there is a blockage in the filter. To remove blockage take filter out of jug and rinse in running tap water for a few minutes. Clean underside of filter with a soft brush.

Yes, we recommend keeping the jug full of water; this will prevent the filter from drying out.

These are calcium residue so are harmless. Usually they are a symptom that the filter hasn’t been prepared properly before use.

You should repeat the filter preparation procedures.
